Hi everyone Brian brought up a point that 'gonna' is taught to ESL students because of current English usage - I would nearly die if I had to teach it this way, too. To me simply talking it doesn't mean it should become canon - when spoken quickly 'going to' might sound like 'gonna' but when one purposely says 'gonna' that has a slightly different sound.
what I'm seeing is 'gonna' written for 'going to' in an otherwise grammatically correct sentence written...and it gives the impression the writer is somewhat ignorant. Now I understand that it might have been taught that 'gonna' is an accepted word.
