I'm interested in speed of calculation, so rebuilding a profile is not an
option. Also sometimes I do not have the original data so would have to create
it with a CMYK to Lab conversion.
I've seen it done though where calculation of a Lab value using specific

You cannot use a CMYK profile to convert to CMY. One option is to use
CMY=1-RGB, which is widely abused and does not work in CMYK, but it
works on CMY.

Would I alter the profile before creating the transform, or make the transform
differently.
