Look at TP-Link devices. They are cheap, and they are mostly
Atheros-based (I'm not sure about USB WiFi, but PCI/PCI-E cards and
routers are Atheros-based).

It costs four times what the Edimax EW-7811Un does. I note the
RTL8188CUS chipset is having issues with the lates
