Almost certainly a hardware problem -- the last time that it happened to
me, incredibly the faulty component was *the monitor*

I currently use the pptpd.lrp package, it works well without any issues
although thats the only VPN server on that particular LEAF system so I
have no idea what issues you might experience on a system also with OpenVPN.
