In order to use the Perl Package Manager (ppm) on a WInME machine from behind my Dachstein firewall, I would like to set up a proxy.

I know I can use ppm without it, but have run into a good number of problems and now would like to set up a proxy for it, not only to verify where the problems lie and circumvent them (I hope) but also to learn more about proxies and LEAF.

I have found socks5.lrp, but I'm not at all sure how to use it, if indeed it is the package to use for this and is compatible with Dachstein.

At this point, I have very little aside from a bunch of assumptions, which may or may not be all wrong.

Even reading some of the available Howtos has not helped clear up any of them, on the contrary it has raised a quite few more.

Is the proxy-arp howto applicable to this problem?

How does it affect or interact with my basic firewall?

What changes do I need to make?

Any useful links to documentation?

TIA
Arnold
