I just set up a Dachstein CD firewall for the local ISP. Is is setup for proxy-arp and is working well.
It has been up only a couple of days and I noticed the following entry in the logfile a couple of times.
Mar 18 19:46:47 firewall kernel: attempt to access beyond end of device
Mar 18 19:46:47 firewall kernel: 01:01: rw=0, want=12297, limit=12288
Mar 18 19:46:47 firewall kernel: dev 01:01 blksize=1024 blocknr=12296 sector=24592 size=1024 count=1
It looks like it is running out of memory. It has 64M ram with a 16M ram log drive.
I do not understand what the limit of 12288 comes from. Is this ram0? It only shows 43% usage.
The logfile did fill up the ramdisk1 yesterday and I deleted the logfiles and restarted the loging daemon. I have not rebooted the box so I don't know if something got messed up when the ramdrive filled up or if it could be bad memory (I really don't think that is the case) or if I have the ramlog set too big.
Shortly after the above log message here was the info for the ramdisk.
Filesystem 1k-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on /dev/ram0 12155 5272 6883 43% / /dev/ram1 16172 1414 14758 9% /var/log
Here was the memory info. Free Memory 14 % of your system memory is currently used. 54640 K bytes available 28568 K bytes free
Thanks for any info. LaRoy
