Henry,
CIPE
is a "proprietary" protocol and only talks to another CIPE box. It's however
very simple to configure and get running. IPSec is a "standard" and allows
interoperability between lots of different platforms, CISCO, MS
etc.
From
my own minimal experience as a complete novice I found getting ipsec to work too
taxing on my brain <grin> whereas I managed to get CIPE up and running
with 3 VPN tunnels with only a bit of hand holding from the CIPE list. My
problems were mainly to do with ipchains (again due to my
ignorance.)
Stability wise CIPE seems to be running OK, I have had it running here
for over a week with no failures up till now.
