Well subject to all the usual caveats etc. about the type of game, the
basics still apply. If you cant control/pass the ball against Guiseley you
wont against Forest etc. The midfield was much of a muchness. Tonge looked
head and shoulders above the other shufflers/sideways passers in that he
could retain the ball, look up and see an opportunity and then deliver a
long pass accurately. Cook looked promising-White might as well pack his
bags he's probably moved further down the midfield pecking order.

I had taken no.1 grandson. Just the sort of match to take youngsters to-no
pressures, friendly atmosphere, local, free. There were plenty of similar
families. Then along comes Waccoe warrior. More tattoos than brains. Biggest
achievement in his life seemingly the ability to engineer the F and C words
into every sentence. Clearly had a few drinks beforehand. Starts on Morrison
straight away. Constant barrage. "You're useless, you're fat,you're a C. why
don't you F off etc". This is right at the side of the pitch and Morrison
must have been getting fed up and I dont blame Morrison. I didn't think
Morrison played badly. What balls got to him he laid off well and he linked
up well with Taylor on the left. The trouble being Taylor then launched
crosses into the box but there was no-one there, or at least not near where
Taylor sent the ball. Morrison's not fat but he's also not McCormack,
Beckford or even Becchio. He doesn't chase lost causes which some people
interpret as being lazy, not interested etc. But it might mean he's not
daft. One decent header apart he never looked like scoring. He's not going
to get 25+ goals a season, especially if like yesterday there is no support
up front. It might be interesting seeing him and Smith together. Walters
looked lively when he came on-bye bye Poleon.

The new GK didn't have anything to do. The other 2 Italians didn't show any
"wow" factor and didn't seem better than what we already have, or just got
rid of. I dont know about Carlton Cole-I was thinking a black Varney without
the mobility or heading ability. I thought the strategy was to get a
bloated squad down to a more realistic level, perhaps bringing in 2/3
players to fill key weaknesses. However we seem to be aiming to bring half a
dozen or so (according to the press). What's worrying is they seem to be the
types that couldn't break into the team at Serie A clubs and had been farmed
out to the likes of Accringtoni or Bradfordania. Italian versions of
Wooton/Stewart/Ariyibi.

Still, early days

2 - 0 victory - Pearce header from a White cross on 83 mins, then Byram
cross to Smith feet in last minute.
Sounded like a pretty rubbish game - but a clean sheet is always to be
welcomed, however poor the oppositon
Phil Hay reckons the teenager Cook was most impressive player, keeper had
nowt to do, Bianchi quiet and Doukara is described as a big unit and a more
mobile Carlton Cole

Most entertaining bit seems to be Cellino swearing and shouting like a good
un and really getting carried away

Other thing of note is a rumour that Morison told fan(s) to F Off ?

We seemed to keep the ball quite well but to no real purpose

Always hard to know what to take from pre season games especially the early
ones when they make wholesale changes etc. But some decent bits and pieces
according to reports and a 2 goal victory with a clean sheet so I suppose
'job done' will be the reports from ER- also hard to comment when only
access is some awful commentary from Guiseley first half and then LUTV
second coupled with comments on twitter

The good thing is the fact that there is no ammo here for the anti Hockaday
brigade - I think as and when we lose a pre -season game v lowly opposition
the knives will be out very quickly but results like this, whilst pretty
meaningless will not harm him
