Dear friends and colleagues, Thanks to those of you who have offered support and papers (and apologies to any whose patience I have unduly tried ). Be assured I won't be posting another update for at least a month. Feel free to network this one -- I would be delighted to learn of any similar events being planned in other States in celebration of the first anniversary of WTO Seattle (and the second of MAI Paris!). The Perth Convention is on track and a pluralistic (dare I say multilateral?) work group will meet within two weeks to start the firm planning. There is still time for interested organisations to have ground-floor input and to offer a delegate to the N25 committee and/or join the non-public email/resource listserve which is now operational. There is already strong backing from Resistance and Green Left Weekly, from several trade unions, WEL, the Sustainable Economics Group, the National Civic Council, the International Socialist Organisation, activists for animal welfare, those against genetically modified foods (and for labelling thereof), the local S11 group, CAA and of course the StopMAI Coalition which launched the idea and will stay on to help. Other groups are in the process of formulating their contribution in time for our nominal deadline of 29 July. We will be having some interstate guest speakers (for whom we will provide home hospitality if not airfares) and we anticipate a very dynamic experience in the shadow of GST and the wake of a huge Melbourne WEF protest on Sept 11, by which date our firm programme and early-bird ticket sales should be available.
