I don’t have much in the way of pictures they were lost in my house fire but i copied a couple of pics from the net to give you an idea of

Spirals on larger dia work shorter pitches compared to larger pitches i think larger pitches just look better on bigger work

The 4x gears are for larger work usually that need larger pitches or if you want to for some reason want a really fast spiral

The 4x gears repeat or come close to some of the 2x, .25  and standard gears

Pitches for the .25x gears ½, ¾, 1, 11/8 , 1 ¼, 1 ½ ,1 7/8 inches per rotation

Pitches  for the standard gears 2 ,3, 4, 4 ½, 5, 6, 7 ½ inches per rotation

Pitches for the 2x gears  8, 9, 10, 12, 15 inches per rotation

Pitches for the 4x gears

A gear pitches: 1 1/2 , 1 7/8, 2 , 2 1/4, 2 1/2, 3, 3 3/4, 4 1/2, 5, 5 5/8, 6, 7 1/2 inches per rotation

B gear pitches 6, 7 1/2, 8, 9, 10, 12, 15, 18, 20, 22.5, 24, 30 inches per rotation

C gear pitches: 24, 30, 32, 36, 40, 48, 60, 72, 80 90, 96, 120 inches per rotation

So it’s up to you to decide if you want all these extra long pitches provided a 4x gear set becomes available I wanted a set to do veranda posts or columns  10 or 12inch dia

Bill,

Thank you for the copy of the page.  Based on that - it confirms: I do not have one.

Before any of us jump in and say "Sign me up for one.", can you give us some info on what you can do with the 4X Set - say, versus the 2X Set.  Both a narrative and pictures will be Very helpful.

Thanks for all the you do for and contribute to The Group.

Mac

Joe - You have been rather "quiet".  This one's for you:  Do you have a 4X Set?  Have you since fabricated an 8X Set for your "Beast"?

Don’t even know if I have a 4X gear set how would I determine that?

Bill, (and others)

I don't know if you saw my earlier reply (below) - but I was "HINTING" to Members that might be interested in getting a 4x Set to "chime in".

That should give Bruce and Tim a feel for the level of interest within The Group.

Of course, the "level of interest" will be a function of the estimated cost for the Set.  It would probably be best for Bruce/Tim to decide:

1.  Are they interested in fabricating the 4x Set (and/or other add-ons)?

2.  What is their "worst case" estimate for the set? (Meaning if they only made a set for themself and one other - how much would it cost?)

That could then be what they put out to The Group - as a "starting price" (plus S&H).  Then, depending upon how many Members say they want one, the Maker (Bruce or Tim) may be able to adjust the cost per set downward due to economy of scale.

Just my 3 Cents worth.

Mac

Your right roger my 4x gears fit on my 900 no problem the only thing I would improve with them is the delrin centres I will make brass ones as needed. and if necessary it doesn’t take that long to swap the standard set to the 4x set not that i need to my hybrid mill has gears each end one end standard set and the other the 4x set.

Now if Bruce  ends up making a set if he makes a couple of extras i bet members would buy them from him that would pay for his set

Hi Curt

Slight correction regarding your email on the 4X Gear Set, yes it was made for the 2000 Series but worked on the 900, 1200 & 1800. I say this because I sold a number of sets to folk with those machines and received no compliants.

Cheers

Hello and Good morning.

Bruce. call Legacy again and this time ask for Cindy, she takes care of the older Legacy business/ manual machines.

She may be able to help you...

As far as I know the X 4 gear set, was made for the 2000 models. they are extra heavy gearing. and do need an entirely new frame work to mount and use them.

Having said that, If Legacy can not help you. I know a few different ways to make what you want.

This is an older topic from our archives, that I made, the X-2,3,4, gear sets. Perhaps you could make something like this as well?

More latter.

Hello Bruce,

Welcome to The Group.

I went to your website - Very nice.

One "question" I had when on your website was "Where are they located?".

I don't know if that omission was by design or merely an "Ooops!".

Just thought it was worth sharing - because pretty much anytime I interact with someone that may be making/selling me something, I want to know where they are.  Not necessarily the exact address - but at least the nearest city & state.

I am confident you will get the answers to your request regarding the 4X Gear Set from one or two folks in The Group.

In fact, I hope that Tim will jump in, not only with the answers but, with an offer to The Group to take orders from anyone interested in the 4X Gear Set.  Then, if he gets the number of sets to make it worth is time, take orders and solve our need for the set.

Tim has fabricated a number of pieces for the LOM in the past - and from what I understand, they are as good as or Better than what Legacy made.

Again, welcome - and we look forward to not only finding out where you are located, but to seeing projects you produce with your Mill.

Hello Everyone

I am a new member in this group, thanks for letting me join. My name is Bruce Wellard, I have been into wood working for over 30 years. I got my first Legacy 900 Mill about 20 years ago.

I have recently purchased a used 1000 EX in excellent condition and would like to get a 4X gear set to do some larger projects with. I have contacted Phantom Engineering to see if I could buy this set, they told me they do not supply it any longer. That said I am going to make them myself, but I need a little help. I have most of the information I need to do this, just missing a few things. If any one has a full set, I need some dimensions and photos of the A set gears, spindle gear and the left and right hand directional gears. The outside diameter and tooth count will do. Also need pictures of the brackets and the dimensions of them. Any help on this would greatly appreciated. When I get them done I will post the results for anyone interested.

Thanks again.

Bruce
