I was thinking perhaps two chucks could be used to hold inside-out turnings as
well? It might be a neat Christmas ornament project?

have one somewhere that has a slight taper that lets the wood fit firm if
slightly out. if you don’t want to have to cut the centre drill hole off later
or drill one for that matter or worried it might split then yes
