Hello Everyone.
I just had a NOTE Worthy experience with this checkering concept. (NOTE worthy,
but not picture worthy.) ;-p
I used Mike's carriage travel indexing method. YES it did work, but my math

Thank you for the video, Mike. It reinforces the method of indexing
that Legacy uses in their videos. And it works well enough to be
useful in m

You do come across with a very large understanding of things though Dan.

As you will see in this video. https://youtu.be/SjcFpO51upw Carriage
indexing can be just as accurate as long as you have a positive stop at
the end of the cut as well as an absolute return point for the split-nut
to drop back in. Lots of options here so have fun.

I have witnessed machine cut wood checkering and it is sharp and crisp just
like
hand cut. The cuts are not deep and the remaining peaks are very low
pyramids that are surprisingly durable. Side cutting at very shallow helix
angles might work. A 60° point on the router bit at even 24 LPI won't
Good morning Dan
When I was going to school (machine trades) we would often use a knurling tool
to make the checkering.
I cant help but wondering if a multi edged cutter working from the side would
help? Or something like my checkering tool, A cutter with a fine bearing to
follow the last made
Yes I believe the 2x gears fit the revo

Curt, I'm not sure of what
Curt, I'm not sure of what is meant by "indexing the carriage". I suspect
it means to break the sync (release the lead screw follower) and move
the carriage a pre-determined amount to get in position for the next cut.
That's the method Legacy teaches for spiral starts. Yes, I suppose it
I never use pins and plates. I use the gears and crank handle. Have a
look at the video I made https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHgzEKnON-o
with a 2X gear set, you will be able to accomplish a 15" pitch. Since
we have a 4 tooth per inch lead screw, It will take 60 turns to complete

Hello Dan.
Question? What pitch are you looking to make for these diamonds?I know
everything is subjective to the dia. of the work piece. (example a 1/4"
pitchlooks huge on a 1/2" spindle, but very small on a 4" spindle.)
I was wondering, on an old checkering tool (gun stock) you have the file
