I like the idea of using privacy brackets [[]] in the name field but upon
looking in the help file it would seem that this option is only supported in
the notes. Is this true? Can [[]] be used in the name fields?

What I do is upload a gedcom of the parts of my tree I want to research on
ancestry. I then save whatever records I find in the tree. When I am done I
download the tree as another gedcom. I then merge back the new gedcom into
legacy. Ancestry does properly source the info and that is my reason for
One way would be to use the compare two files for duplicates and tag the
duplicate individuals. You would then be left with the untagged individuals
which are not in your main file.

I have just discovered Ltools (http://zippersoftware.com/ltools/index.htm) and
it has a task to enable you at add an event to a tagged individual. You have to
register the product to get this task.
Hope that helps

Hi
I was wondering if anybody can help with this problem.
I have a large number of tagged individuals that I want to set their birth
location to be the same. At the moment I cannot see any way to quickly do
this other than editing each individual separately.
I am able to use Microsoft Access
statements, and a lot of functionality is already
built in. Check if out, it's a deal that is too good to pass up. (The
help has a list of every table and what it contains - very helpful).

Try using GEDxlate (http://gedmagic.com/GEDxlate.htm) its free. This program
takes a GEDCOM file and allows you to export the data to a spreadsheet. You
can select what data you want to export.

I have tried repeating what Michele was trying to do and I too get the same
problem. It seems that you cannot add multiples of the same source even if
the details are different. This seems to be for any of the items not just
AKA.

Does anyone know how to quickly clear the Not Duplicate List without
having to remove each entry one at the time. I have over one thousand
entries :(

When you import all the info and sources are brought in. The option to
assign an autosource allows you to say where the data came from. It adds an
extra source to the data. I used to ignore this when I imported and only
later came to realise how important it was to identify where the data came

Hi Richard
Thank you for your input. I think I understand what you are trying to
achieve and I believe it would work.
What would be good is if Legacy could compare two databases and allow
tagging of duplicates without doing an import. That way I could quickly add
the sources without the hassle
I have found that if you make alterations like that you need to reset the
relationships by running set relationships again.
