Eileen,
Another Master list in my Legacy Ver 6 listed several of exactly the same
description also, all were grouped together on the Master list. In my case
it was the Child Status Master list. In place of a repeated location, I saw
a repeated child status, in my case the blank status, used with each entry.
It seemed as though Legacy was evaluating each status (or location in your
case) as unique and adding that status (or location in your case) to the
Master list. I came up with a 'fix' that had to be corrected by Dennis.
Haven't seen the problem reoccur. I wonder if our problems with master
lists are related in that Legacy evaluates a location entry as unique when
it should not and adds that entry to the Master list, over & over. Regards,
Jane Tripp

Janis,

No I check and it's easy to see that each and every one lines up nice and
neat. They are all the same, believe me. Now I know that this could be a
old problem, because I have not worked on any of the Location file in
years. It would be nice if the program merged all of them together, but it
does
not, I combine them into one, and sometimes, as I merge a few together, I
can see it adding a name like the one I'm working on, and when you click on
the added one, there will be no names attached to it, so I merge again. I
am working on the Master Location file to get all the locations with their
correct county and full state name with the program help.

I know that the program should only have one name for each spelling, and
that is why I'm writing to you and telling you, that it is not happening
that way. I have been working on this file for over a week and I'm only
down to the "L" names now. So I have lots of experience with working with
the program and this file.

I know how to combine the names, that is not the problem, the problem lies
with the program, having 17 cities names all the same, when it should
automatic merge them into one, as I imput them on the family file I'm
working with.

Ok, maybe I believe the progam should do more then it can, I will combine
them because I cannot copy and paste them to prove to you that they are all
the same.

Thanks
Eileen

Ah, got it.

Eileen, are you sure that there are not minor differences in them? When
they are all precisely the same, they should merge themselves, without any
other action on your part.

Janis
