To the individual having trouble using AOL in plain text format - In order to compose in plain text in AOL you need to right click while you are in the text box area and the last choice is "compose as plain text." I had a bit of a time finding it (AOL Help was less than helpful) and as far as I can tell, you have to remember to do this each time you send an e-mail to the LUG. I also note that since AOL went to "free" status, they have added a tag line for their service which is hyperlinked and which the user has no control over. Hope this works and it helps you.
