There was a discussion in another list about what format to use for file
though that was for archiving so some considerations which might or might be
valid here.
Some are keen to keep the RAW file, with no compression or manipulation so
it can be processed or enhanced in the future.

but that also decreases their compatibility with other applications. They
are great for MS Office applications.
TIFF has much wider support in almost all applications.
