Hi Lug members,

I also purchased the hard-copy of Elizabeth Shown Mills' new book. and also
downloaded the e-book version for easy referencing.

If you go to footnote.com you will find that you can now purchase the e-book
for $24.95 instead of $29! It's a relatively small download for such a large
book - so you won't have to worry about it "hogging" lots of hard-drive
space.

Well said, Denise.

Elizabeth Shown Mills' new book, is available as a pdf download, for $29. I
have the book on my shelf already, but immediately downloaded it when I
heard it was available in that form. It makes it really easy to enter a
search term ("land entry" or whatever) and go directly to the section of the
book that is applicable. It can be found at
http://www.footnote.com/evidenceexplained.php (and other places, probably).
Very handy to have it right in my laptop.

I have focused for the past two or three months on cleaning up my sources,
and putting them in publishable form. I have converted from being a "lumper"
to being a "splitter." I had been guilty in the past of taking shortcuts;
for instance, sourcing a book, and omitting the fact that I viewed it at an
online source.

I started by working my way back from my parents, taking one direct ancestor
at a time, and printing their chronology, with sourcing, to pdf. As I review
each source, I go to the original document or digital file and source it
properly. I frequently reprint the chronology and sources to pdf until I am
satisfied that they look exactly as I want them to, and they conform to the
Elizabeth Shown Mills standard. Then I move on to the next direct ancestor.

It is an enormous undertaking, even though my database contains fewer than
4,000 individuals. But satisfying to see the results.

Janis, in sunny Seattle

Subject: [LegacyUG] Citation Style

Hello All,

I have been following the discussion on sourcing citations with great
interest. It seems that E.S. Mills' new book has inspired people to think
about updating their Legacy citations to match her style guide. Some people
want to wait, some are revising sources, some are using their own personal
systems.
