Advice that has turned into my golden rule through years of computer
glitches: "Before you try to fix any problem, reboot, then reboot into safe
mode, then turn the computer off and leave it for 45 minutes...if the
problem persists, try something else." The reboot or rest cures the problem
50% of the time. Gremlins multiply in the memory, I swear! Glad your problem
is gone!

The craziest problem I have had recently that took many hours of
re-configuration and frustration: Computer won't get past a certain point
when it boots...hangs partway through loading windows drivers. If you wait
for 45 minutes or so, it finishes booting and performs perfectly! The
culprit turned out to be that the computer doesn't like to boot with a jump
drive in the USB router. Take it out, problem solved. Darned electronic
menaces, these machines. But what would we do without them?
