Write down the RIN's of those people. Click in the text field behind
the RIN button (top left in the Name List or Index View) and look for
those RIN's. Are they in the list now? Look in the Surname column do
the have a surname? It might be you entered them with the first name
and surname both in
I asked this question several years ago and never really got an answer that
helped. It wasn't such a problem then, but now my database is so much larger
that it's often a real problem.For some unknown reason I don't seem to get all
of my people in my database. When I go to the surname list
Can you find them in the Name List? You can search by surname there. I
rarely use the Surname List except for the occasional editing.

I haven't had that problem but here are a couple of thoughts
Have you tried a Fix/Repair on the database?
If you turn on the AKA's in the index, do the missing people show up then?
Is it always the same people missing, or are they missing one day, there
another, and someone else
IMHO, you have a problem whenever while looking at the
Name List, you can't find every person you expect to
be there. What I would do first find the person by the
round about method you mention, and Tag them to an
unused number. Check that person's spelling and dates
accurate. Turn Legacy off, and
If the missing folks were a second or third marriage, then you might
want to adjust your preferences to show the desired line. The preferred
line will then be visible. To set a preferred spouse from the family
view, right click on the marriage info.
