I tested the latest version of Legacy 7.0 and was not able to confirm
this. I added a new person with birth and death dates. When I clicked
save the never married and had no children box was not automatically
checked. Legacy DID automatically check the Living No box.

Have you tried clearing/cleaning out the various memory tools such as
Tools > Source Clipboard > clear all and open the Individual
Information Screen > right click on the word before a category such as
Buried > choose Clear All.

For it to do it, you need to be adding birth AND death information on a
person that has no spouse listed.
