It sounds as if you now have two identical files. If so, simply delete one.
How did you get two? Probably at some stage you either saved to a
different location on your computer or practised restoring a backup
and didn't delete the restored file.

considerable time comparing my 2 files. The name lists have been reconciled.
All the
numbers are the same except for one person who had to be added to one list.
That person has a new number. Can I change that number to the
start with 10001 and most numbers will be similar

If one file is considerably smaller than the other, this may be the
way to go. You could use the Name List to see more people at once

I have found the 2 family files, one named Legacy family file 4.0 and the other
named the Nill family. I can't compare them as I have the standard Legacy 4,
and apparently that is only available in the deluxe version. Should I combine

First, find them both.
2. Print the name list in both, separately.
3. Compare to see how much is corrupt/confused.
4. how big are they under 100, 1000, 1, 10.

Having first decided which file to use as the base file, generally one would
use File>Import From>Legacy File to import the other into that file.
Ensure that you renumber the RINs from a number higher than the highest RIN in
you base file (there is an option for this). You will then need to merg
