All computer based genealogy databases use RINs to keep track of
people. One branch of my family still has the same RIN in Legacy that
they had in the little DOS program I used 15 years or more ago to
enter my aunt's research. I used several other programs before I

Since genealogy programs are using database technology, every person entered
must have a Unique number given. This is the RIN (Record Identification
Number) This can't be removed for anyone in your file.

Not really. It is a programming tool. It is required
by the system. You can choose to not see the numbers,
but they are needed. In the beginning, I didn't like
them at first, but now find they can be useful and
helpful.
