For me, that depends on where they are in my tree.
If they are close relatives, Child One, or Boy/Girl One if I know gender.
If not, a note in the Marriage Notes. eg: This couple had 8 children.

Hi Gary,
I give each child a place-holder name, such as "Unknown Child #1",
"Unknown Child #2", and so on. If I know the sex, then I put that in,
instead of 'child'. If you don't know the sex, click on the "?" radio
button alongside the ones indicating male and female as Sharon mentioned.
I put "child", "son" or "dau" as the given name. With "child" you wouldn't know the sex so click on the "?" and it turns a green color for unknown sex. You could put those ID's in the prefix field if you wanted, instead.
