Dawn as I do not use the archives often, I have saved the Legacy messages in
my gmail account. I found a lengthy conversation on lumping and splitting
dated July 6 - July 8, 2008. You might want to check those dates if that is
possible in the Legacy Archives. With the messages saved in gmail all I
Dawn,
I won't address the mail server, but I would like to commend you for at

First off, it came through correctly to me. The summarized example might clear
up the mud in lumping/splitting. Each of us must individually choose. A good
example of what it means: You can put all your census records in the Event
Census, or divide it by country/state/county/city/year as de

the time: Virginia Colony, New Haven Colony. The counties/parishes are traced

Hi all,
First of all I'm sorry if this comes through in anything other than
plain text. I was going to ask for help from any gmail users out
there, but I see right on my screen a link that says "plain text".
I've clicked that so please let me know if this comes through in plain
old vanilla text.
Thus the reason for the official recommended installation path of "C:\Legacy"
instead of the normal "C:\Program Files(x86)".
This gets a little convoluted and techy, but Legacy can peacefully exist in the
Program Files folder if the user has Administrator rights. If the user is not

It is saying that Legacy wants to create a file (missing.txt) in its
program folder and Windows 7 - with its strict permission controls -
won't allow it to write in the Program folder. That's what the experts
in W 7 are telling me.

I was incorrect in my map. I just was to mention the map is just for
Malmöhus in southern Sweden, and it is 29 pages not 20. Bing! finds a
lot of those locations.

Jan,
Are you certain that you are looking at the right source list for the
generation? When you elect the sources at the end of each generation the
numbering of the citations begins at 1 for each generation.

Bill,
Legacy uses Bing! Mapping service from Microsoft. I research Sweden, and
amazed at how it finds the small parishes. I have a rather 20 page map
of detailed Sweden, and it mostly hits the correct location. Sometime I

Bill,
Legacy uses Bing for its mapping, it seems natural, to me, for the
programmers to use a Microsoft mapping program when the database uses MS
Access. There has been previous discussions re Google Earth - see the LUG

It was a permission problem. If I set Legacy to always run as
administrator then it can write to that folder and missing.txt is

While you are waiting for replies from people with more experience I
would be thinking along the following lines.
Open the GEDCOM file as a txt file in Word or whatever and then use Find
& Replace to edit and move info around to suit Legacy's use of GEDCOM.
If there was much repetition involved I
