Hi Kevin,
"is there some way to take care of the places other than one-at-a-time?"
Import your GEDCOM file into a new Legacy file, then look at the
Location Master List. Fix an item there, and it will be fixed in every
piece of data where it appears.
You get to this list via View > Master Lists
Most of the time when I cut a GED from my .fdb I get an "Audience" of 100's
not linked in any way with the Focus Selection & only visible in the Index
to start with. The selection that does this is "Descendants & All Spouses".
(Not the "Descendants & Ancestors etc.of those Descendants").

Hi Phil
If the Research Journal data has been exported from FTM then you should be
able to get it into Legacy. Legacy appears to use the following tags for the
to-do:
1 _TODO
2 DESC
2 _CAT
2 DATE
2 STAT
2 TYPE
2 PRTY
2 REPO @R0@
2 NOTE
You can find out what tags are used in Legacy by creating a
Yes, and I recall your post as well as many others in the past (going back
several years here). It's been one of those little annoying problems in Legacy
that's never been addressed. Probably because the problem cannot be readily
duplicated but many users report having the same problem from time

In addition to importing into a new file, check out the automatic changes the
program will do on the Location master file.

I understand. But is there some way to take care of the places other than
one-at-a-time?
Thanks in advance.

YES. As most of us recommend, always gedcom into a new file, fix the locations
to the way you like the locations, then merge together. That way you can also
use the tool to make that author a Source for each person automatically. So
when you merge a person to himself, you can scroll the sources
In my own case, I found what I had done, in L5, unintentionally accepted bad
spellings into my dictionary. The obvious one was 'teh' instead of 'the'. I
then went into that file and deleted the bad spellings. I was surpised by how
many I had put in. It may not be the same problem.

I want to import and merge a GEDCOM with my Legacy family file, but the
author of the GEDCOM did not format the places uniformly. Some contain the
county, some don't, some contain the word "county;" Some abbreviate the
state, some write it out, etc., etc.
Is there a tool where I can edit the GED
OK, Sherry, I know we've been off-topic but watch me reel this in and make
on-topic.
Mike, dunno if you put those single quote marks around the word capital on
purpose or not but Albany most definitely is not the capital of New York. It is
the capitol. Check your spelling.
Which all brings up

Now steady, Brian, it's *our* language, that's why it's called English and
*not* American, so *we* choose the spelling. :-)

Shame. Shame. You should have seen by his email address that he was from New
York which is in America. And then you mention "Spelling". Any good American
knows that "Capitalisation" is spelled with a Z instead of an S. The rest of
the world is wrong and we are right. :-)

I doubt it. The two features should be considered as propriety.

I have just over 7600 individual users in Legacy and recently I tried
copying an entry from another legacy file. This meant that the RIN jumped
and I now have a range from 356611040 to 3556611075.
Is it possible to reassign these RINs to follow on in sequence and if so how
