JimS,
Legacy has not taken control of anyone's calendar. The fault lies within
your own calendar settings. I also have a subscription to the webinars and
I have never had any webinar automatically added to my calendar. It is
totally ridiculous to think anyone can add any event to your calendar
Hi Mike,
We use doxygen for producing some pretty decent looking manuals for our
software products. I agree its not the easiest to use, and can be a bit
quirky at times but in the end it works and it means every time a change is
made to the software the manual reflects this change provided the
Paul,
You keep saying that you are using the program in anger. If Legacy or any
program is causing you anger, then don't use it. Nobody is forcing you to
use a program in anger. You claim to be a programmer, maybe you can write
your own program that will not cause any anger for you.

Paul,
Legacy is a relational database and uses Access. What it emphatically is not is
a wordprocessor, nor in my view should it ever contain one.
In the same way as it creates basic websites it creates basic reports. Using
other software Legacy generated webpages can be changed. Save reports

Ron, when I said 'use in anger' was wasn't referring to me being angry,
just the fact I'm trying to use the program to its fullest capability. It's
a common enough phrase.
I e-mailed my problem to the forum hoping to find other people
Hi,
Does anyone know how I can edit the sentence/wording format used to produce
the initial sentence about each person in an ancestor report which
comprises of their name, birth, christening, death and burial?
I've worked out how to alter sentences for life events and marriages, but
haven't yet
Those are hard-coded into the reports. You can only edit them if you
create the report as an rtf file then use a word processor to change the
wording.

You are not alone in your frustrations. While legacy is good at data
entry, you are not the first, nor will you be the last, in voicing
frustrations over the inability to get your own data back out of it. The
archives are full of workarounds to address these issues too - locations vs
addresses,
Hi Paul,
You said 'use in anger' is a common enough phrase. FYI - I am a 66 year old
American if that makes a difference and I had never heard this phrase used
in this manner so I Googled it here

Ron, I tend to agree with your analysis.

Of course, not all reports, especially charts, are suitable for wordprocessing,

In one of the Webinar's Geoff talked about how to have someone else send
you information using a Gedcom? file that you can then add to your family
file and you don't have to do duplicates or merges. How is that done? I
want to move files between my two computers. Any ideas?

Gedcoms are only used if you're sharing genealogy data files between
two different programs - let's say between FTM and Legacy.
Otherwise you want to do a backup of the Family File (File Backup
Family File) to move the data to another computer using Legacy.
If you're working with a group of

Is there a GOOD kludge to get a COUNT of each name in the

I mean, sure, I can print-to-csv an alpha list, parse it in

different program /used/ to print me such a

Is there a way to print this?
Or is there an equivalent timeline located elsewhere that I've missed?
The timeline report/chart does Not do the same thing.

Hi,
Legacy's standard gedcom 5.5 output is missing event data. When I
create an event sentence definition it would be nice to have the fields
interpreted so that we have the translated sentence in the gedcom file.
Events data is not missing in the Legacy to Legacy GEDCOM, but it is in
GEDCOM
I think that would be because although a gedcom is thought to be a standard
file format, it's apparently not and different programs treat it
differently and do different things with it

What I would do is to periodically output your data to a Legacy gedcom
file, then log it into a git repository, or an SVN repository which
could be stored on your hard drive. I use the git GUI from github.
