Try restarting your computer and see if that resolves the problem.
I suspect that the file has been opened in an add-on program, or the
program crashed and the .LDB file wasn't released.
Don't try deleting it - just try closing all programs and restarting
your computer.

When I go to attach a video file, the link for video opens to only show
"Movie" file types.
I have other file types that are movies that I would like Legacy to
recognize as well , .MP4 and .flv
I know I can currently select these types by changing the Movie file type
to all.
But it seems they shou
Help from the User Group,
Is any one getting the error message: Error:0, Error Opening Datbase, Could
Not Lock File? I have searched the error messages on the Support/Legacy

I'm running the deluxe version of Legacy (8.0.0.499).

Those are some good considerations, Chris.
One of the frustrating things in support is when the user reports a
problem, we get their Family File and we can't duplicate it!
I've been working with a gal who is seeing more than one child in

I am a retired programmer also and I used to use MSAccess and Visual Basic
a lot.
There are several very important questions before any possible solution to
this issue could even be considered:
What OS are you using?
What version of Windows are you using?
Do you use any Microsoft Office software
Sorry - I should have added to *backup* the Family File (File > Backup
File) before resetting the Event Sentence Definitions to default. That
way you can restore the file with the edited Event Sentence
Definitions if resetting them doesn't help.
To reset the definitions, go to File > File Maintena
Tessa,
My point was that if he edited the file in Access or changed Event
Sentence Definitions, he *could* have done something that "broke" it.
We do not recommend messing with the file in Access although many
people do. Doing a simple query for a search shouldn't be a problem,

It happens to me quite frequently. The good news is that you don’t lose any
data but the abrupt close of Legacy causes it to forget where it was and will
re-open to the person that was last on your previous closing of Legacy. I have
determined what makes it happen for me and how to avoid it. Al

This is a Windows "thing" that is usually wrong. It hasn't hung. Just say the
program has installed correctly. It most likely has. I think it's caused by
I got this error twice a while ago, but I have not seen it recently. I do
think if Legacy allows us to add events or modify sentences then that
should not be a source of the errors (as mentioned by Sherry). Telling us

Fingers crossed I have just downloaded the update again and so far no

Hi Pete Thank you for the detailed info. But I have to say that I seldum get

I have been using Legacy FamilyTree for about 10 years. It crashes on me
about once or twice a year. I don't ever recall receiving that error
message.

First of all, I'd suggest that you read the Guidelines for the Legacy
User Group - you'll find that we ask that you don't send attachments
to the list. Many of our listers are still on dial-up or are paying by
how much broadband they use plus due to the risk of hidden malware in
attachments we ask
