I do NOT use these at all. As these are Postal Codes and NOT abbreviations.
There are way too many that are the same for different Postal locations and
think they should not be used with genealogy data.
Also note, I do not like using abbreviations either as they create other
problems in other areas of one's data.

Subject: [LegacyUG] County and State codes in Short and Long locations

Has anyone had a look in this area?

In My Docs/Legacy Family Tree/_AppData/_AppData/Misc there are several text
files used to manage the conversions between short and long location names.

The file GeoCountyCodes.txt includes codes for all counties in the United
Kingdom with a second copy for Great Britain, and for the counties for Ireland.

The file GeoStateCodes.txt includes state codes for US, Canada, Mexico,
England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Australia, Germany and the
Scandinavian countries.

Which of these two files is used for the Expand/Contract Location Parts
process? Or are they both involved?

How can the Australian state codes in the GeoStateCodes file be activated?
There is no check box for Australia and they do not seem to work even though
they are in the file.

Can other sets of codes (eg. New Zealand Provincial codes ) be added to this
file, and if so how would they be accessed?

Boyd
