[LegacyUG] Hints

2017-07-07 Thread Cheryl Rothwell
I have a membership in Genealogy Bank. But when I get a hint that utilizes one of their records (and that is rare which is why this hasn't happened before I assume) Legacy cannot take me there. It says I must be a member of FamilySearch. I assume that means a church member as I have an account at F

You should be able to get to any account. you don't have to be a Church member, either. But I think you need to give your FS info to Legacy to stop the confusion. If it's a site that requires membership, you should just fill it in. Joyce On Fri, Jul 7, 2017 at 1:56 PM, Cheryl Rothwell wrote: >

The only account where there is a place to fill in that info in Legacy that I can find is FamilySearch. It's in 8.13 of Customize. On Fri, Jul 7, 2017 at 2:03 PM, Joyce Herzog wrote: > You should be able to get to any account. you don't have to be a Church > member, either. But I think you need

OK, had not thought of setting up the Gedcom from Ancestry, changing all the Est to Abt, doing the same with my existing Legacy file before doing the merge. Not exactly what I want but it would work and save time. Never done a search and replace but going to make a duplicate file and try this on

Est is not a prefix in the options menu but Legacy does "see" it as valid. There is a bug in our tracker about this asking the programmers to put Est in the options menu with the rest of the valid prefixes. On Jul 2, 2017 2:43 PM, "Lucy Abbott" wrote: > I have always used Est rather than Abt. Si

Cheryl, If the hint is from Genealogy Bank, it shouldn't be taking you to FamilySearch at all. Are you clicking in the right place? To set up which sites you want Hints from, you go to Options-Customise 8.13. If you choose to have FamilySearch hints (which aren't from their vast databases but

A GEDCOM file is a plain text file but the lines are organized in a special way and include key words that let genealogy programs understand the contents. Each program then stores the contents in their own special data format when they import the GEDCOM file. You can open any GEDCOM file with
