There is M F and ? for Gender. As you might guess the ? is for unknown.
Just click on the ? for the Gender when adding the child.
In the Family View of Legacy 8 the Click to Add a Child menu has the
option to add a child of unknown gender. That option will create a child
with the ? already clicked

Take a closer look at the individual input screen. You will see: M/F/?.
The ? stands for unknown.

Yes, but when you're in the Individual's Information window, you can change
to Unknown (?).
If you accidentally select to add male or female and realize it's the other
one, you can also change it then.
