Hello- I am attempting to cite Japanese civil registration records, known as koseki, but am having a bit of difficulty in the format of the citation. Japanese civil registration consists of a family register, which is started at a specific date (which is listed on the document) and is continually updated as time goes on. Of course, there are no examples of citing these records in Evidence Explained or a template for them in Sourcewriter in Legacy. If anybody can help me create the source list citation, the first reference note, and the subsequent note, it would be greatly appreciated. I have the following information from the document:
The name of the head of household - Ushizaemon Sato Family's address - 247 Waki, Waki-cho, Kuga-gun, Yamaguchi-ken, Nippon The repository - Waki yakusho (Waki government office) Repository location - Waki-cho, Kuga-gun, Yamaguchi-ken, Nippon Date the register was created - 1889 *I have the specific dates for this and the one below if needed Date the register was closed (upon the death of the head of household) - 1928 Certificate numbers (there are multiple pages of the register, each with a different number) - 0517 0522 to 0517 0527 Here is what I think the citations could possibly look like: Source list: Waki yakusho (Waki, Kuga, Yamaguchi, Nippon). Koseki [Family registers]. Waki yakusho [Waki government office], Waki. First reference note: Waki yakusho (Waki, Kuga, Yamaguchi, Nippon), Koseki [Family registers], no. 0517 0522, family of Ushizaemon Sato, Ushizaemon Sato entry (1889); Waki yakusho, Waki. Subsequent note: Waki yakusho (Waki, Kuga, Yamaguchi, Nippon), Koseki, no. 0517 0522, Ushizaemon Sato entry (1889). These family registers have a separate entry for each individual in the household. For example, in the family register, there are separate entries for Ushizaemon's wife Saku, his mother Rin, his son Gentaro, and so on. I am wondering if the repeated use of "Waki" is too redundant in the first two citations. Also, if there is any other information that I need, please let me know and I will look for it on the document. These records have the be ordered from the specific government office, which provides the certificate copies in much the same was as Canada, the United Kingdom, and the US. These records may be microfilmed or be in bound books by the government office, but there is no such information located on the copies. Also, depending on how recent the record was made, the information can be either handwritten or typed. In the case of the above record, it was handwritten. Again, any help is greatly appreciated.
