Gary, have you tried using Legacy on your desktop with your data stored
in your OneDrive that comes with your Windows 10 software or with DropBox.
I use it that way and then can access my data for whatever computer.
You only want to have the data open on one device at a time to maintain
integrity
I keep my data and image files In Dropbox. That way I can access
everything no matter where I am. Even from a library or friends computer.

when you copy the family data files to the laptop I think(?) will still
expect media to be on D: (I think so anyway - I haven't tested this).
So I'd suggest identic

Here are the directions from the Legacy website - Support section.

First you need to install Legacy on your laptop. You can legally use
Legacy on the computers
I have Legacy installed on my desktop computer and maintain all my
researching from there.
The desktop computer is configured with TWO physical HD's --- a SSD "C"
drive that contains the OS (Windows 10) and installed programs. The other
a physical "D" drive contains all other data including my Leg
