My apologies for "unthreading" this thread, but it appears I'm again plagued by the common unsub/resub issue. (I can post, but I'm not receiving list mail. No it's not a spam filter issue. I just re-subbed this morning, so I'll give it more time before I contact Customer Service).
Russ responded to my question about duplicate sources on a re-import to Legacy: "You may have just overlooked the section. Did you check all the tabs? Also, make sure you scroll down on some of the fields and check out all the radio buttons for the info you want to keep, then you can copy source from right panel to the left panel and/or swap the people around to get the source onto the right person before you merge?" I just tried again, and no, there is no tab specific to sources and yes I'm scrolling down and not missing any fields. I can manually delete imported sources before I merge (time-consuming and clunky at best), but only for added Events like Census, not for standard B, M, D events. Why is there is no option to compare duplicate sources like there is virtually every other piece of data? Legacy should be able to identify sources with identical NAMES and DETAILS attached to the same event and let me choose what do with that information. [I can feel an enhancement request coming]. Legacy could/should take the lead in solving the major issues that exist with importing/exporting sources to/from other programs. The industry should not be forcing us to choose one program and stick with it for life for everything we do (never mind we can't properly share info with other people who use other programs). I, for one, would happily purchase/support more than one program (and more frequently sing the praises of Legacy to others) if only it would handle source import/export better (and give me a Research Notes report). Russ also asked what Gedcom format I used. RootsMagic does not give us a choice or tell us what format (unless the option is buried somewhere I haven't found). When I originally exported from Legacy, I'm fairly certain I used 5.x, but I'm not sure what difference that would make given that there is no way to import/export sources and retain the sequence/formatting (using any program, AFAIK).
