official names at the time of the event. So, for locations pre-1776,
I use "British North America" instead of "USA". You could get more
precise and use t

Here's what I do:
United States Colonies, Virginia, , Moorefield
I like listing country, state, county, city, but I do understand not
everyone likes that. This won't serve everyone, but it serves me
pretty well. If I know the county, I include it. (Some towns were not
in a county- just the terri
se complications with mapping programs or the
GeoLocation database, so what you enter may depend on how you intend to use
Legacy.
