Kathy - late to the conversation - but you might want to take a look at
various social security dates. In general, (and this is from memory),
farmers weren't required to get them until something like the mid-60s.
Self-employed folks also were required to get them much later. Many wives
used their
The SS system started payouts in the late 1930s, but the SSDI only begins
in about 1962 (with a few exceptions.) Wouldn't a lot of researchers be
