You have a backup of your Legacy data file on an external hard drive,
and you want it to ultimately be a useable Legacy data file on your laptop?
You should be able to plug the external hard drive into the laptop, open
Legacy, and then RESTORE that backup (File > Restore Family File...).

Only use a gedcom when you're transferring files between different
programs, uploading to websites which ask for them or going back to an
older version of Legacy.

Will it work to just attach the external drive to the new laptop and have
Legacy 7.5 pick it up? Or do I need a GEDCOM created via another PC and opened
via email on the new laptop? (Not a problem I ever expected to face. At least
there -is- a backup.)
