Try this:
Select the FAMILY view tab
right click on the background
Select CHANGE COLOR SCHEME
A new dialog box pops up. (If ya just glance at the buttons, it doesn't
look like it will do what you want - but you can also change stuff
manually when this window is up - see the top sentence)

Options > Customize > 9. Colors
9.1 Main Window Colors (gbl)
Select - Click here to go into color-change mode for the main window
Now right click any child in the children’s list and you will get the dialog
box where you can change the colors of male, female and unknown
