Hi Robert,
Great explanation. I really had not even thought of that.
Thanks,
Tim

Thanks for sharing that, Sherry; that was new to me and is definitely very
useful; I like how it tells if the information was "imported" as well.

In the Family File, the date an individual is added and/or modified is
stored in the database. Click on the date in the lower right corner
of the Legacy window to bring those dates up if you want to see them.
When you import a gedcom into Legacy, you have created a new file and

Tim- I believe what Sherry means is something like this happens:
Say you enter your grandfather on January 1, 1995. You also enter
several other people on the dates of January 2, 1995, January 3, 1995.
You are using Legacy. You make a Gedcom of your family file, perhaps
to share with a cousin, or
Sherry,
You mention that you would loose dates added and modified.
Help me understand that please.

I use dropbox to share files as well and generally have been very happy with
it. But, have you had any problems with tags transferring? I created some
new tags to identify a few folks my home computer but when I opened my file
on the netbook, the tags weren't there.

Kathy,
In addition to what Jim has described, you can:
Copy your .fdb file to a jump drive, then paste it into the Legacy/Data
directory on your netbook.
Or (and this is what I've done for over a year now; it is a perfect solution
IMO), install Dropbox on both computers and it will automatica
I never switched to Source Writer. I had forgotten that reason. I had others. I
try to keep my data (Gedcom safe).

Another idea is to store your working file in Dropbox (download for free);
then when you turn on your netbook and it connects to the internet, any
updated files will be transferred to your netbook automatically. If you
don't already have it, let me know and I'll send you a link. If you sign up

Rich,
A gedcom will change all SourceWriter sources to a standard style source
For that reason, I recommend gedcoms only as an absolute last resort
if you're not sharing data with someone with a different genealogy
program.
You would also lose dates added and modified, history and bookmarks
Perfect Jim! And I have had the problem before Show only Tagged was
checked and when I unchecked it - everything is fine.
Thanks for the help

I don't work with netbook, but if your zipped' did not grab 100%, then you need
to do a gedcom instead. Is netbook large enough to hold the Legacy program and
the data, with photos, and whatever else is also there. especially if you have
multiple copies of any file or backup on it. I never zip
Kathy,
(1) To get your Master Sources to reappear in Legacy on tyour netbook click
on View on the menu bar and select Master Lists > Source. Next remove the
check marks from any of the boxes in the 'Show Only' area below the Help
button on the right side of the screen. Once you do this, all of you
