Hi Swappers,

I've thoroughly tested this little "iceBook," and while all ports and
drives work and it shows no signs of the ubiquitous video issue, the
power jack appears to be slightly damaged (see abundant details
below).

So here's the rundown:

12" iBook G3 500 MHz (Late 2001 model)
Currently running 10.3.9, but it will be wiped or restored to factory
default OS (9.2.2 & 10.1 - if I can find suitable restore disks)
before shipping, per list rules
128 MB RAM
20 GB HDD - no issues
CD-RW/DVD-ROM "Combo" drive - works great, and a nice surprise to find
on an early G3 iBook
LCD is perfect - no scratches or dead/stuck pixels
USB, FW, Ethernet, Audio, and speakers all work great
No AirPort card

Cosmetically, I'd call it "used and proud of it." It belonged to a
design student, and though it's perfectly sound, it could use some
cleaning. Shows the normal scuffs you'd expect on an 8-yr old laptop.
Battery latch and lid latch are both tight and functional, no cracks
in any case plastics. And, as far as my nose knows, it doesn't suffer
from the "foot sweat" odor problem, either (and we can all be thankful
for that).

Now the catch, as mentioned above: the power jack is ever-so-slightly
chipped/warped. Normally, I wouldn't call this a problem, but for some
reason, none of my Apple power supplies will seat properly, preventing
the 'Book from taking a charge. Its previous owner used a third-party
universal adapter that *does* fit - the pin in the middle is shorter
than on the Apple supply - so it's possible there's just something
stuck in the middle hole in the jack. The universal adapter,
unfortunately, looks fried, and the metal cuff ring is noticeably
split. I couldn't get the 'Book to take a charge from it, either, and
I suspect it's what caused the damage to the jack.

So, essentially, this is the opposite of the "dead battery" problem.
The iBook will work, but *not* plugged in; it will only run on
batteries. If you're someone with an alternate way to charge 12" iBook
batteries and/or someone adventurous who can tackle the power jack
problem, this is the laptop for you!

I'm asking $75 shipped for the iBook with basic specs as listed.

If you want it beefed up - extra 512 MB RAM, AirPort card, a known-
good Apple power supply and a good battery (~2 Hrs charge) - it will
be $140 shipped.

Both prices are "or best offer," and before anyone asks, I will not be
parting this iBook out. The sheer number of screws you go through
trying to take one of these apart... no, thank you. All or nothing,
folks.

I'll accept PayPal or USPS Money Order for this one, and it will ship
in its original box - though not original styrofoam - double-boxed for
protection, via USPS Priority Mail with insurance.

Pictures available on request, feel free to email with questions.

Sincerely,
Allison Payne
