Not too long ago a decision was taken to join certain discussion lists with
a "left-wing" reputation. The reason was that we were keen to inform others
of our struggle and hopefully win solidarity for our struggle, and we also
wanted to read of political events elsewhere in the world. Because the lists
were meant to be left-wing, we thought that would mean that their
participants would have a more advanced, a more internationalist
consciousness. After all, Che Guevara, who was active in Guatemala, Cuba,
Congo and Bolivia, has been a great influence on our own Party and Front.
We have found these lists to be at best a disappointment. Few have shown any
interest in our struggle, although now and again some have thought fit to
offer us patronising advice. In about two months of a hunger strike/Death
Fast, which incidentally is still going on despite the massive state
crackdown, the people on these lists must have been among the best informed
in the world (outside Turkey and the Turkish-speaking diaspora) with regard
to the underlying issues in the revolutionary and prison battles in Turkey.
But it seemed to find little echo.
Now, after at least 30 comrades have been martyred in the prisons as well as
some more outside, and we know they are still dying, there is beginning to
be a response from some people on the discussion lists. We welcome this, but
we were fighting and dying long before you woke up, and our enemies have
long been aware of our tenacity and willingness to sacrifice ourselves. You
woke up at about the same time that the bourgeois media condescended to
notice that there was some kind of problem in Turkey, so your consciousness
does not seem to be much more advanced than the bourgeoisie's after all.
We also hoped that these lists would give us an insight into the struggles
waged by others. But this too did not materialise. Too often they are a
vehicle for the personal quarrels and bickering of others, or they are
indicative not of struggle, but of its absence. To the extent that there are
other struggles going on in the world, and we know there are, we do not need
these discussion lists to find out about them.
So for all these reasons, we have decided to unsubscribe from all the lists
we are on. We thank those few who actually did show us some solidarity. They
are welcome to forward us items or request information, as we assume that
they have our e-mail addresses. But as to the rest, our inboxes will at
least not be clogged with items of little or no value.
