I use a GUI program to help me with using git/GitHub.  I'm sure I'm not 
alone.  On Windows I have been used the Windows-only *Git eXtension*s, 
which works well enough but sometimes I'm not quite sure what some 
operations are going to do.  On Linux I've been using* Git-Cola,* which is 
simpler, but I've had problems with it on some distros.

I have just started trying out *GitKraken*, which is a commercial product 
that is free for "For solo devs on public & local repos only" - that would 
be us Leonistas.  It's available for Linux-Windows-Mac.  I have to say it 
seems very slick and easy to use. 

Worth a try.
