While looking throught the IRC logs, I noticed the following thing asked
more than once:
One problem with utf8 locales on the LiveCD, is you can't simply ssh
into a non-utf8 machine in console. In X it works, but in console I
couldn't su - to my server, passwords were messed up, etc.

Ahh! I believe I have found the source of my difficulties. I got the
LiveCD in mid December, and downloaded the current book, 6.1.1.
Well, it turns out that the book talks about installing perl-5.8.7 in Ch-5. My
CD had 5.8.6! I had done a cut and paste from the book to build scripts fo
