There are a few things to note (at least in v16 I'm using):
-if the install takes less than 1sec, git can't find the new files. (I added a 
sleep to make sure there was a second delay after the initial scan)
-it should have a restore function to complement backup. (I added one)
-one of the finds needs a -maxdepth 1 IIRC
-backup doesn't backup modified files (No "right" answer on this one, but I 
changed my copy to do it {CYA})
-removing a package which has modified a file doesn't replace the original 
file, so there may be a version inconsistency.  Restoring the file from the 
original package may be necessary, but in some "pathological" cases may cascade 
other restorations. (C'est la vie.)
