Hi everyone,

A former classmate of mine has started an organization that attempts to
increase voter turnout by reducing the barriers to voting - if you're not
tracking, only 57% of eligible voters actually voted in 2008. There are
lots of reasons why people don't vote, but forgetting to get yourself
registered, getting too busy to request an absentee ballot, and letting
deadlines slip by accidentally shouldn't be among them.

The deal is simple - you sign up on their website and they track primaries,
registration deadlines, election days, etc, and they send you the necessary
paperwork and reminders to get it all done. They've got 25 universities
already signed up for this coming election and *are looking for more
partners* - please see the below and contact Sam Novey (cc'ed) for further
information.

\\Hi everyone,

“How do I get started?” Last Friday, Matt Norfleet, the student body
president at Eastern Michigan University, called me. He left a remarkable
message, which boiled down to a single question: “How do I get started?” A
few hours later, Eastern Michigan University became the 25th TurboVote
partner school.

TurboVote is on the cusp of something big. In the past eight weeks,
seventeen new schools have joined up - nine in the last two weeks alone. The

have
published features on our new partnerships.

With your help, we can reach students on 100 campuses and set a new
standard in higher education: every college should provide every student
the materials and information they need to participate in every election.

School starts soon, and now is the time when student and university
leaders buckle down to make their plans for the fall. My small and scrappy
partnerships team can’t possibly reach all the leaders who could be
empowered by TurboVote during this critical time. That’s why I need your
help.

Matt Norfleet heard about TurboVote several weeks ago, and in the middle
of the summer, he called his fellow student council leaders and emailed a
proposal to a powerful administrator who allocated funding.

There is a Matt at every college: a student, professor, or administrator
who understands that making democracy as easy as sharing a link empowers
leaders to engage their communities in voting, and who also has the
resources and energy to get big things done.

Help us find them. Please forward this now to a college leader and have
them email me at s...@turbovote.org.

We have an opportunity over the next month to take a big step towards
creating a democracy that fits the way we live. Whether we seize that
opportunity hinges upon our ability to find these remarkable leaders and
empower them with the tools they need to lead.

 Thanks,

Sam
