Colleagues,

Please join us this *Thursday, 19 July **at 12 Noon EST/New York* for the
next Crisis Mappers Webinar in the series. [16:00 GMT].
http://www.timezoneconverter.com/

In this session,* *John Quinn <http://cit.mak.ac.ug/staff/jquinn/>, from
the Department of Computer Science, Makerere University, Uganda will be
discussing* Machine Learning Techniques for Improved Disease Mapping in the
Developing World.*

Efforts to map the spread of infectious disease in developing countries are
often inadequate due to the relatively high
costs of data collection. However the recent proliferation of communications
hardware and network availability has made it possible
to collect data and make inferences in new ways. I'll discuss two methods
of enhanced disease mapping that we are trialling in Uganda: automated
smartphone-based diagnosis of disease and natural language processing in
spatial density estimation.

Be sure to join us this Thursday!
