I can confirm this behavior with LO 3.5.4.2 under Ubuntu 12.04 32-bit.
Saving does not just freeze LO, it also eats up the whole RAM.

Reproduced exactly as described on LO 3.6.3 Windows Vista 32bit.
There are many other similar reports of bugs with saving the Freeze Pane. This
is a good reproducible test case though.
