Thanks James for the additional information (comment 62). It appears that
using ghostscript to do the conversion may be a feasible workaround for
installations such as those mentioned by crxssi in comment 57.

Thanks for the clarification in comment #39.
I have tested Libreoffice 4.0.0 x86 Linux en-US and can confirm that PDF files
