Happens for me as well, consistently.
Steps:
Launch > close default window > choose "Preferences" > select "Online Update" >
click "Check now" button > spinning colored pinwheel mouse pointer > crash >

Still crash in 3.6.0.1 RC1 too.
This crash doesn't happen on another platforms - only on Mac OS X because there
is specific solution of window system.
