Priority: medium Bug ID: 64374 Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org Summary: EDITING: Removal of leading apostrophe when formatting cells from alphanumeric to numeric Severity: normal Classification: Unclassified OS: All Reporter: kev...@nvtech.com.au Hardware: Other Whiteboard: BSA Status: UNCONFIRMED Version: 3.5.7.2 release Component: Spreadsheet Product: LibreOffice Created attachment 79038 --> https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=79038&action=edit This is an example LibreOffice Calc file to demonstrate the bug. Problem description: Format/Cells/Currency/ fails to format a column or row of contents in accordance with the user's specification. For example: insert in a column: '$23.00 '23.00 A23.00 A 23. 00 23.00 $23.00 Highlight these, select Format/Cells/Currency -$1,234.00 Only the 23.00 is affected. I suggest it would be a good feature for LibreOffice Calc if, under these circumstances, all contents have their non-numeric characters (including spaces) stripped from them and then the resultant numeric value is formatted according to the user's specifications. At present, when you copy the contents of a web-page and paste them into LibreOffice Calc, it is possible for currency values to be preceded by "$"; in which case Calc will take them to be text. When you select Format/Cells/Currency, Calc will place an apostrophe in front of the value indicating that it is text in a column specified as being currency. When you try to effect an find and replace on that column, to remove the leading apostrophe, the editor replies that the " ' " was not found. It is possible to get around this inadequacy by a number of clumsy hacks but this reflects badly on LibreOffice and should not be necessary. To assist you further, I have included a file where the right hand column of currency has been subjected to Format/Cells/Currency/-$1,234.00. Note that all values are now proceeded with an apostrophe. Try to do a find and replace to eliminate the leading apostrophes. It does not work. The left column of figures hasn't been altered, They are "as is" from downloading from the web-page. Try to add them and you will see that they are being treated as text. Operating System: All Version: 3.5.7.2 release -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.
