The "Promote chapter" and "Demote chapter" buttons don't work as expected:
Follow these steps to replicate the problem:
1. Take a odt file that has a few paragraphs with 2 levels of headings.
2. Press F5 to pop up the Navigator panel.
3. Observe that the "Headings" node is collapsed by default.
Expand it by clicking on the [+] button on its left (or the RightArrow key)
4. Select a Heading1-level node in the middle of the article.
Take care NOT to select the last node.
5. If the "Promote chapter" and "Demote chapter" buttons in the header part of
the Navigator panel are grayed out, press F5 a few times till they appear.
(Ref: bug#68977.)
6. Now click on the "Promote chapter" button.
Immediately the entire "Headings" node collapses again.
This is a huge usability issue, because if I have to promote a node 5 times,
I have to expand the "Headings" node five times and select the node five times.
7. Writer shows the same behavior for the "Demote chapter" button also.
Desired-1:
(a) When I press the "Promote chapter" or the "Demote chapter" button, Keep the
"Headings" node expanded: Do NOT collapse it.
(b) Move the selected node to the new position.
(c) Keep the node selected so that I can simply click on the "Promote chapter"
(or the "Demote chapter") button repeatedly till the node reaches the right
position. (I should not have to select the same node again and again)
Desired-2 (even better solution):
Allow a user to simply drag-n-drop the node to a new position with mouse.
Why should I press the promote or delete button so many times??
